Join us on a journey to the heart of Carpathian people - their craft. For centuries Hutsuls have been known for intricate masterpieces, that transfer all the wisdom and culture of their ancestors. 

In this trip we will ditch the traditional cheklists and go into the homes  of our most favorite artisans in the east of Carpathians. We will take our time, sip herbal tea (or coffee!), have long chats, and dive into the crafts life of the weaver, egg painter, wood carver, pottery maker, and cheese farmer. 

We will also greet early spring sun at the top of Bukovetsky pass and hike towards the scenic Pysany Kamin. And finally we will end our journey at one of Ukraine's most innovative social projects - Promprylad Renovation.

Day 1

Arrive to Ivano-Frankivsk and have your breakfast at Urban Space 100 - restaurant, funded by the community. 

After a short walk around the downtown of Ivano-Frankivsk, we will get on a comfortable minivan to take us to Kolomyia. In Kolomyia we will explore the Museum of Easter eggs with over 12 000 Easter eggs from Ukraine and all over the world. On the way out of the town we will stop by the 18th century wooden Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, an excellent example of traditional Hutsul sacred architecture. 

Transfer to Kovalivka village. 

We will enjoy our lunch together with pani Iryna. She crafts gorgeous Easter eggs and after the meal we will be able to sit down with her and learn to do one ourselves. 

Transfer to the town of Kosiv - the heart of Hutsul craftsmanship. We will relax after a long day with a fun evening of barbeque and getting to know each other. 

Short walk to the downtown of Kosiv is optional. 

Day 2

Wake up at 7 am and tranfser to Bukovetsky pass. We will pack our breakfasts and enjoy our morning tea, overlooking the sunrise at the impressive Carpathian scenery. 

Afterwards we will go for a 4 hour easy hike to Pysany Kamin, a rock formation, a natural monument and a place of power for locals. 

Transfer to Yavoriv village. 

For lunch we will visit one of our all time favorite women in Carpathians - pani Hanna. She is a well-known wool-weaver, with her work shared all over the world. Pani Hanna is a heart and soul of Kopylchuk family, who uploads the wool-weaving traditions of Yavoriv area. 

She is also an excellent cook and we will have the chance to join her culinary class on traditional Hutsul cuisine. After the hearty lunch we will spend some time working in her workshop. 

Afterwards we will head to the cheese farm, and meet pan Ivan, along with the sheep and goats at his farmstead. Time for some cheese tasting!

Transfer back to Kosiv and free time. 

 

Day 3

We will spend the morning in Kosiv. First we will visit pan Roman, the patriarch of Trots family - famous for their work with traditional Kosiv painted ceramics, recently added to UNESCO cultural heritage list. 

After short snack we will visit pan Mykola Strynadiuk - the master of Hutsul wood carving art. 

Fast lunch and we are on our way back to Ivano-Frankivsk. We will have some free time to spend, hanging around the charming downtown, taking a stroll in the park, or feeding ducks at the city lake. 

In the late afternoon we will meet with some of the team behind Prompylad.Renovation - an innovation center on premises of an old plant. It focuses on four areas of region development — new economy, urban design, contemporary art, and education. Project follows the impact investing model, where investors contribute to social changes in the region and get a return on investment in the form of dividend payouts. 

Prompylad will also be a perfect hang out spot for us before the train departure. 

 

 

Price is 6128 UAH per person. Our tour group is no larger than 10 people, in order to keep the interaction close and fun.
