Every year festival culture in Ukraine becomes more popular, expands its horizons and gains new modern features. You can choose a festival to your own taste. The most of Ukrainian summer festivals already reached international level inviting participants and guests from all over the world. Music shows, activities, master classes, markets, historical reconstructions and many other interesting things are offered by the programs of these festivals.

“Kraina Mriy”

What:
It is the biggest folk festival in Ukraine and one of the biggest in Eastern Europe. It was founded in 2004 in Kyiv. About 1 million people have visited this festival from more than 30 countries since the beginning. The daily program of “Kraina Mriy” includes an exhibition of traditional paintings, market of traditional art, book market, authentic master classes of traditional crafts, ethnic cuisines. Every evening on the main stage it goes a big concert where you can enjoy shows of different folk music bands and artists.

The end of June
Lately, besides summer period, the festival also takes place in January.

Where:
The main location of “Kraina Mriy” is Kyiv city.
But since 2004 it held also in Lviv, Dnipro, London, Surgut, and Perm.

 

“Tustan”

What:
“Tustan Festival” is unique because of the historical and geographical value of its location. The old city-fortress Tustan is an important architectural memorial from IX - XVI centuries. It takes a special place in Middle Ages culture of Ukraine. The spirit of the place has defined medieval thematic of the festival.
In “Tustan Festival” you can be witnessing knight fights, participate in arbalest shooting and medieval master classes. The atmosphere of the festival is also created by the folk music performances, theatres and literature, fire shows and a medieval market. “Tustan Festival” is great opportunity to travel back in time and immerse in the spirit of the Middle Ages for a couple of days.

“Respublika”

What:
This festival of music and contemporary street art was created in 2011 in Kamyanets-Podilsky. Painters from Spain, Russia, Belarus, Poland, and Ukraine have visited it. The festival consists of three parts: literary, music and artistic. The music part was represented by rock bands from Ukraine, Belarus, and The United States.
The main feature of the festival is drawing graffiti and paintings on the walls of buildings which do not fit the city's architecture. In 2012 organizers showed art-house movies in the open air after the evening’s concert program.
The tent camp of the festival is located near the walls of the Kamyanets-Podilsky fortress.

“Sorochynskyi Yarmarok”

What:
It’s a big folk art festival which unites different branches of traditional activities from all regions of Ukraine. Masters of folk crafts can represent their works and objects in a festival market. Every year more than thousand participants, about half a million guests, thousand folk artists come to “Sorochynskyi Yarmarok”.
“Sorochynskyi Jarmarok” is a kind of exhibition market and lasts about 6 days. You can find varied goods there. Among them: clothes and footwear, food and drinks, textile and fur goods, garden and agricultural inventory, honey and, of course, creative products of folk masters.

“Zakhid fest”

“Zakhid fest” is a rock and ethnic music festival. Four stages take place independently one of each. It is quite convenient if you wish to choose between shows. “Zakhid fest” was founded in 2009 and since that time its popularity in Ukraine and abroad is only growing. Countless musicians from Ukraine and abroad have already performed at the festival.
The main aim of the festival is popularization Ukrainian culture and active rest among youth, development of event tourism and festival movement.
A well-equipped tent camp includes all necessary conditions. The program of “Zakhid fest” offers you sportive activities, lectures, hand-made master classes, etc.
To enter the festival you need to book a ticket.

“Leopolis Jazz Fest”

What:
An international jazz festival has started in 2011 as “Alfa Jazz Fest”. Since that time it is annually held in June in Lviv city. “Leopolis Jazz Fest” takes place on three stages which are located near the city center. Two of them are a free entrance and to get to the other one you need a ticket.
Jazz festival in Lviv has accepted already a lot of jazz bands and musicians from around the world. Besides the concerts in all stages “Leopolis Jazz Festival” includes jam sessions, autograph sessions and master classes with global jazz stars.
For several days, the heart of world jazz culture transfers to the beautiful old Ukrainian and European city of Lviv.

“Polonynske lito”

What:
It is one of the oldest festivals in Ukraine which is well known in the country and abroad.“Polonynske lito” has been holding since the 1960s and meant a period when high mountain shepherds were leaving their homes and families for summer to go to the mountains with cattle.
The aim of the festival is to popularize tradition of a high mountain shepherds craft and to keep the material and spiritual culture of Hutzul ethnos.
The celebration starts with making a big bonfire and continues by performing, master classes, entertainments, etc. Every village around used to demonstrate their traditions, meals and drinks, clay and leather goods, traditional Ukrainian clothes and much other authentic stuff.
